Marvel 70th Anniversary Card Set Release

The Marvel 70th Anniversary Card set is being released this Wednesday 4/14/10. Along with a few samples here in this post, and eventually in my comicspace galleries, I've exclusively posted scans of all my sketchcards over at the Scoundral Art Forum in the Martineck Marvel Retrospective thread.

These cards will be released as the 6-case incentives.  Each card depicts origins, first issues, characters, scenes, monumental issues, or moments historically important or relevant for each of Marvels 70 years. I only did 150 cards so it wasn't easy narrowing down all that could have been done and a few things or characters had to be passed over. "Whata ya gonna do." As you can see each card is dated and in full color.

Also, there are a few puzzle cards slipped in here and there in the set, but with the dating format, it was pretty difficult. Here's one:

Inkwell Awards Kubert Scholarship Auction

As I mentioned in a post back in October, I did this Dark Phoenix PSC for Bob Almond and the Inkwell Awards. I did this at the Boston Comic Con and they're running the auctions now in a special "Sketch Card" grouping on Ebay in which this Dark Phoenix of mine is also available. These auctions are set up to help raise funds for the Dave Simons Inkwell Memorial Scholarship to be awarded annually to the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art. Being an XQB myself, (ex-Kubert Student) how could I say no to helping out.
Many more details are found in the auction so go over and check it out.
Also, I'm not sure when I'll be reopening my commissions list so here's a great way to get one of my PSC's without waiting too long.

On a separate note, this is sure to be that last post of 2009.
I hope you've all had a good year or at least have high hopes for the coming one. (I'm in the latter myself)

Happy New Year,

X-Men Archives Trading Card Set

The X-Men Card set has now been released.
I was able to do about 150 full color sketches for the set and I was overall pretty happy with the way they came out. This set was right on the heels of the JLA card set in my working schedule (although that ones not out yet) so I was loose, very warmed up, and ready to try some new techniques. I have all the cards posted here at my X-MEN COMIC SPACE GALLERY. In addition to the classic style, you'll be able to see painted cards and other various themed cards.
I also teamed up with a fellow card artist, Bard, on a few cards. I did the pencils and he painted in oils over them and did a really nice job. Martineck/Bard Sketches (Scan to the bottom of this link) Interestingly enough, Bard was supposed to be working on this set also, but for some reason wasn't able to get to it. So, these are the only Bard cards released in the set.

Here's a little eye candy of one of my Storm cards.

Casual Friday #6.5

"Huh? " you ask. I know it's Tuesday but this early Casual Friday #6 Posting has always bothered me. Although it was a Friday that Wolverine was drawn for a completely different reason, it's the wrong size, and just didn't fit the spirit nor was it anywhere near casual.

My schedule is starting
to open up a little as I've been able to finish up a bunch of jobs this past week and catch up on other crap I've had to put off. So I'm trying to get to things like this that I'm looking forward to crossing off the list.

So, while catching up on old episodes of "Alf", here's the first one to get crossed off.

"Wolverine 6.5"

Casual Friday #10

Welcome to Friday.
It's always a good thing.

I've started going through the suggestions for Casual Fridays from a few posts ago. Looking forward to hitting some of them, but one email just said, "Something with a gun."

So, by request, here's "Something with a gun", (aka "The Black Widow")

There's a Rum & Coke for me out there somewhere. Must go find it now.
