Martineck Marvel Overpower Cards

Moving right along into the next multi - requested checklist, here are all the cards I drew for the various Marvel Overpower card sets. They were all base cards and I believe I have them all accounted for. If anyone thinks I missed one or screwed the list up in anyway, please let me know.
I don't know if there is a resurgence going on for these sets or what, but I've been contacted a lot about these cards recently. Along with which ones I did, I've also been asked if I have the originals and if I'd be willing to sell any. I know I have many of the originals. Some I've already sold here and there, some were "lifted" from Fleers offices and I never got them back, and I know of one that was lost in a fire. As for selling them, yes, I would be up for that. But, I am in the middle of a fairly tight deadline and probably won't be getting around to organizing that until I'm done in a few weeks. I will post here when I start making them available.

Thanks everyone for the interest and heres my Overpower checklist.

Hi there, I was alerted to this post by somebody who noted that you list the 10) Magneto – Repel Object card as one you did. Is this meant to say that you did the colouring over another artist's pencils in this case? I ask because I am certain that Bart Sears did the pencils for this particular card - http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_bo7aR8t0k9k/S5e97hykRgI/AAAAAAAAAbI/AEb2nImQAUQ/s1600-h/Bart+Sears+-+Overpower-+Magneto+Repel+Object.jpg.
Any info you can give me would be great, as I am the #1 Bart Sears fan and need to know this stuff! Thanks.

Hey Jay,
Thanks, I will take this as a compliment. No, I didn't color it. Back then, I couldn't color to save my life. But yes, I did the pencils for this card. As a matter of fact, I originally had a withering hand in the middle of Magnetos blast and my editor made me take it out. It was intended to be the drawing for the "Energy 7" card but they changed it after I finished and sent it in.

I hope I didn't disappoint you too much.

Just spoke to Bart about it and he said he definitely did it... hmmm.

Hmmm, is right. Well. I've got the original right here with my name on it that says otherwise....

any chance I could see it? I'll pass it on to Bart as well if you like.

There you go. Image posted above.
Now remember, you need to give us artists a little slack now and then. It was over 15 years ago.... ;)

Haha, don't worry, I'm an artist too, and I cringe at the stuff I did just yesterday, let alone 15 years ago!
As far as that card is concerned, I showed the original to Bart, and he still contends he did it, but he said that he was often asked to 'fix' some stuff back then. He said it is possible that they sent him your art to use as a layout. The finished art does seem to bare that out, as there is some pretty obvious changes between yours and the final, most notable the abs, hands, nose and leg.
Obviously, I don't want us to get too worked up about this, as it was a looong time ago!

Well that's interesting, I'd never heard that. I guess it's possible that we could have both work on it. Crazier things have happened. I figured it was the colorist. Some of the other cards I did looked a lot different after the colorists were done with them. (not all to my happiness)

No need to worry Jay, I find this fascinating.
Thanks for keeping it interesting.

Agreed, it is fascinating stuff! I've just sent an email to Andy Smith, who was hanging out with Bart at the time, to see if he can recall anything. Will let you know how it goes. Thanks for being cool about this, I was worried you'd blow your top!

I look at it this way. That was one of my earliest professional jobs and if someone needed to fix the artwork up... the finished card looks great, I still got paid for it, and it makes for a good story.

A very healthy outlook! I've just been going through some of your other cards from those sets, jeepers you did a lot of cards!
