Casual Friday #13

"Cylon Raider"

Ahhh, Casual Friday. If I wore a tie I'd have taken it off already. It has been a long week and desperate times call for desperate measures. To keep my head from rolling all around in a perpetual state trying to avoid falling asleep at my table, I through a shot of 5-Hour Energy in a Diet Coke and had at it. Sometimes chemical happiness is a necessity.

So I'm sitting here at my table, drawing up today's CF piece, and thinking the original idea of keeping these restricted to 1-2 hours a piece is a bit inhibiting. Especially if I can spare some extra time and I really get into a drawing as some of the past pieces I find a bit... I think "rushed" would be a good word. So from now on, I will put as much time into CF's as I can spare.

Todays piece is one I've been wanted to draw for awhile. As cool as so much was on Battlestar Galactica I thought The new Raiders were beyond cool. The lines and design is stellar. I could draw that fighter all day long.

In addition to todays CF, I've also pulled out a old Spiderman 97 Sketchagraph ,with Venom, of the few that I've had for a long time off the shelf, posting, and shamelessly plugging it's Ebay Auction. I'll post the link when it get's on the Bay
I've started posting more auctions lately and plan to keep it up. It'll be a great chance for fans to get some rare sketches and for me to finally make some money directly for myself instead of it all going to the companies or everyone else but me.

Thanks for looking.

Justice League of America Sketches

One of the sets I've been working on lately that I haven't been able to talk about has been the Justice League of America set.
I've finally seen some official release info on this upcoming set and it's now mentioned in a few forums, plus I have a bit more info on it as well for my part. (These pics I believe were from Previews or something like it)

I finished up my cards for this a few weeks ago and did 2oo for the set, which I've been told have all been approved. You can see one of the Hawkman I did in the ad below. I normally try to keep my numbers to 150 sketches or less per set (especially for all full color cards) but I thought I'd try a 3 card puzzle, something like I did with the Xena card set back in 2004. The JLA version will be a full color 14 member team shot across 3 cards. I made 9 sets of this puzzle to make it a bit easier to get one. That's the theory anyway.
The ads have a release date of July but I haven't heard anything to confirm it.
Also, yes, as far as I know I will be getting Artist's Proof for this set and will make them available.
Speaking of which, I have my only X-men Origins - Wolverine Artist's Proof available right now on the Bay if anyone is interested.

Thats all for now.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine Card Set

Rittenhouse is releasing an X-Men Origins Wolverine Card set on 4/29/09. More info can be seen here at the Wolverine Page. I was able to squeeze in a few sketches to be included in the set. A few meaning 26, I thought that was a nice number. Enough has been posted by Rittenhouse now, that I can post this with a few more details. Here's my checklist for those of you that always email me for it.

3 BLOB
4 DEADPOOL
3 GAMBIT
4 SABRETOOTH
12 WOLVERINE

As you can see by the sample pic of "Sabretooth" I've tried a different style for these as I needed to change things up a bit just to keep myself interested and get you guys something different to look at. I will post all the images in my ComicSpace Gallery after the release date. (I actually did 27 cards, but the first one I did, trying out a new style and failing miserably, came out so horrendously that I had to put it out of it's, and my, misery. It was chucked.)

On a separate note, I was really enjoying doing those Casual Friday drawings, but I'm closing in on a heavy and tight deadline for the X-Men set and need every minute of time I can get to meet it. It may be a few weeks before anything gets "casual" around here.

Catching Up with Other Stuff.

Happy happy happy, as I've finally finished all my sketch card projects. Those last 550 cards were really killing me. The bulk being Trek cards that were repeat sketches and to keep the mind-numbingness my brain was feeling, I subscribed to a dozen different podcasts to listen to on my Itunes. Some sucked but found a few gems in there.  The Totally Rad Show (videocast) 3 guys from CA talking Comics, Movies, Video Games, and TV. Very cool. Also of note is Indie Spinner Rack. Out of NY and hosted by a friend of mine I went to school with and really great guy, Charlie (Charlito and Mr. Phil) Covering everything about Indie Comics in a fun and really informative way.

Check them out, I'm not kidding! ... and along with some other casts about Macs, Comics, and Tv & Literature, I finished up the card sets with most of my neuro pathways still firing.
So I finally got to sit down and catch up with some computer backlog that's been building up and posted all the sketches for The Women Of Marvel Cards I did and can be found here on my Comic Space Galleries Page. I was pretty happy with the Fantastic Four cards I just finished and also got to organize all the scans for those. I'll have those posted also as soon as they get released.  Thanks to all the inquiries about them btw.
If anyone has any good recommendations for pod or videocasts, let me know. My mind has lately been like a sponge that just needs constant input.
